Click-to-chat

What is a WhatsApp click-to-chat (wa.me) link?

A click-to-chat link is a URL that opens WhatsApp with a specific number and, optionally, a pre-filled message. Recipients do not have to save your contact first.

The wa.me URL format

The public pattern is https://wa.me/<digits>?text=<encoded message>. Digits are the full international number without plus signs, spaces, or dashes — for example 14155552671. The text query is URL-encoded so spaces and non-English characters survive the click.

Why teams generate them in bulk

Hand-building each URL breaks down once you have a spreadsheet of leads. A generator validates formats, fills missing country codes, removes duplicates, and applies one message (or variants) to hundreds of links at once.

QR codes for print and packaging

Each click-to-chat URL can be turned into a QR code. Scanning on a phone opens the same WhatsApp chat, which is useful on posters, inserts, and product packs where typing a number is awkward.

What a link cannot do

A wa.me link does not send the message by itself. The person (or your extension, after you confirm) still opens WhatsApp. It is not the Cloud API, does not create a business account, and does not bypass WhatsApp’s rules.

Create links here

WA Link Generator turns a list of numbers into wa.me links and QR codes in the browser. Start on the free plan, or follow the bulk guide if you are importing a CSV.
